Construction workers suffer the highest suicide rates of any occupation, 5 times higher than the national average, largely due to work-related stresses such as seasonal work, demanding schedules, complex and difficult work, and the self-reliant nature of construction workers. Suicide Prevention Week is held annually nationwide to raise awareness about the unique challenges construction workers face and what we can do to help safeguard their mental health and lives. Perry Engineering has taken an active role in suicide prevention by taking the stigma away from mental health issues. We frequently talk about the stressors that affect construction workers and where help can be found. During Construction Suicide Prevention Week we will have toolbox safety talks about mental health and sources of help.
