National Work Zone Awareness Week – April 20-24, 2020

Perry Engineering performs a significant amount of highway work zone construction, and it is some of the most hazardous work we perform. Highway work zones are especially dangerous due to heavy trucks and machinery with large blind spots operating very close to workers on foot in a narrow space, with traffic whizzing by at usually higher than the posted speed limit. One moment of inattention or distraction can spell disaster. Therefore, all of our Project Managers, Superintendents and Foremen are VDOT certified in traffic control, and all workers receive training in how to safely work in a highway work zone. We celebrated this year’s National Work Zone Awareness Week by having a safety toolbox discussion on highway worker safety to remind everyone of the hazards and safety procedures that are required.

When you drive through a highway work zone, please consider your safety and the safety of the workers by reducing your speed and paying attention to your driving. It is a matter of life and death, including your own.
